What to expect

The Ribola Art Route is an expression of the African spirit that brings together Tsonga, Venda and Shangaan cultures. We invite you to celebrate the eclectic rhythm of Limpopo through the sights and sounds of this out-of-the-ordinary community.

On day one you'll visit a home gallery and the Vutsila Art School, taste traditional beer and dig into local food. After a musical performance at sunset, you'll meet your host family for your Chavani village homestay.

Day two starts with early breakfast and a visit to Twananani Textiles to see what this community initiative has been making for the past 20 years. You will also have a chance to create your own textile project, which will be yours to take home. After lunch, there a musical performance by students of the Tinyiko Art Centre, and then it's your turn to play a traditional musical instrument, and maybe even create an original song with the band during a jam session. Dinner and accommodation to follow at Shiluvari Lakeside Lodge.

Workshops will keep you busy on day three: clay pot-making at Florah's home (take your creation home with you) in the morning, wood crafting with Patrick or beading with Phyllis in the afternoon, with lunch and some downtime in between. The day finishes with a sunset cruise, and dinner at the lodge.
